Is there an EMT Basic class hosted at Vista Hospital?
Yes, the EMT-B class is hosted at Vista Medical Center West. The class is registered and credited through the College of Lake County.
How long is the class and what is the class schedule?
The EMT-B class follows the CLC semester schedule. There are two classes available in the spring and fall semesters. There is an 11:00am – 2:30 session and a 5:30pm – 9:00pm session. Both classes are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays. There will be a minimum of 4 Saturdays, and those dates will be provided on the first day of class. All clinical /emergency room time and ambulance ride time will be in addition to this schedule.
Is there a summer EMT-B class?
Yes, the summer class also follows the CLC semester schedule. There is one summer session and it is on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:00am – 5:00pm. . There will be a minimum of 2 Saturdays, and those dates will be provided on the first day of class
Are there any prerequisites to the EMT-B class?
Students must have a high school diploma or GED, language proficiency and basic algebra readiness. Students must be 18 at time of licensure testing.
Will a student be a licensed EMT-B with the Illinois Department of Public Health after taking the class?
Students who complete the objectives of the class will be permitted to take the Illinois EMT-B exam for licensure and /or the National Registry exam.
How do I register for the class?
Students must contact the College of Lake County admissions department to register for the class. After the student has successfully registered, the student will receive a letter in the mail and to your CLC email explaining the details about the first day of class, classroom location, parking etc.
How much is tuition, where and when do I pay and is there a tuition assistance program?
Tuition is not paid to CLC; it is paid directly to Vista Health. Tuition is $850.00, and it is due on the first day of class. This does not include books (available at the CLC bookstore). The EMT-B class does not qualify for tuition assistance other then applicable veteran benefits (contact CLC for more information).
